We kicked off our autumn course with oversized leaves, setting a stage for beautiful arrangements. Most of my students brought stunning bird-of-paradise flowers, which we combined with unusual shaped Helekonia- bird-of-paradiese - ore birds-nest-ferns leaves. Everyone was full of enthusiasm and delighted that the new course had finally begun.
Today we will show you some more impressions from our trip to Tokyo, not only from the Headquarter but a little bit more of this fantastic big energetic City
We are back from our trip to Japan with wonderful memories, and full of inspiration. We are still recovering and need a bit more time until we get back to our routine. Tokyo and the Sogetsu-Haedquarter where fantastic. The Cherry-blossems just started to bloom when we arrived and came to an end when we left. Today we show you just a few pictures from our lessons at Sogetsu-School.
We are in Japan to study, get inspiration from the Headquarter of the Sogetsu-School and to do a bit of the OHENRO (the great pilgrimage at Shikoku) . We are back in middle of April full of inspiration. No regular sunday-update antil then.
After our return from Japan we would like to share a brief overview of our Shikoku Pilgramage Tour. Along the way, we visited twenty beautiful temples ans soaked in the unique atmosphere of this spiritual journey. Here´s a small selection of the temples we had the chance to explore and some impressions from the road.
The topic of the last two weeks were Sailing Boats, sail out of the harbour with very positiv and fresh aproach and come back on week later very proud and with wonderful valuable things the have purchased somewhere in the world.
Sofo Teshigahara, the founder of our Sogetsu-School and the spanisch painter Joan Miró met in Tokyo and in Paris in the 1950s. There friendship was about respect and recognition of each other´s innovative approaches. In our online-class we looked at a few picture from Miró and tried to adopt the colors and the atmosphere with conventional and unconventional materials. We would like to show you the selected Miró Pictures, but we are not allowed to do so!
We finished our summer course with straight and curved lines and with the first variation of upright Moribana. My new students are very good in finding and working with interesting materials, as you can see for yourself. I am very proud of my more advanst students, becouse they become more courageius in the choise of materials.
We worked with great joy on straight lines. The hardest part was to choose the right material. Then we found out, that the ugly mother in-law-tongue is very forgiving. We pinched holes in, put some sticks through and mad expressive Arrangements.
Find grass on roadside for our next Ikebana-Lesson was the task for my students this week. The found beautiful grasses that they had never noticed before. We created light summer-Arrangements, which made us forget the unbearable heat. And we are so happy that our Bat-Plant is blooming for the first time.
To work only with leaves is always a challenge. We tried to combine different shades and different shapes of green leaves and added a small amount of red Cordyline fruticosa or good luck plant to lighten up our arrangements.
All of my students were very excited to start the new Ikebana-class last Friday, after two month of Ikebana-abstinence. In January is not much happend on the Sunshine-Coast, school-summer-holidays and the heat demand their tribute. We defied the heat with three fans and worked succesfully on straight and curved lines, on basic upright- and basic slanting-styles with slightly modifications.

We met yesterday to a creative Workshop with topic on “Puzzle-Sticks and Flexigrass. We combined both materials in a minimalistique way. The Puzzle-Sticks served as a holder for our Flexigrass, so that we where able to let that Grass make beautiful curves.
We are back from our Christmas-holiday, had a wonderful vacation on the Mornington-Penninsula and in Melbourne. Not back jet to Ikebana-Classes but having fun with New-Years Ikebana-Arrangements.
Everybody is in Christmas-Mode, so we did different Christmas-Arrangments this week, all inspired from the festive New-Years decoration in Japan. The festive colors are: green, red, gold and white, these colors make us always happy and we did happy looking Arrangements.

Our creative group met a little wile ago and the focus was on “bleeding heart” which Julie provided for all of us. It was a creativ morning with interesting results, thanks to Julie .
Everyone could choose their preferred lesson and worked it out. We did have quite a good selection, ranging from complementing an art work, over expressing a movement and reflection of water. It was a interesting, creativ morning with a lot of joy.
We are so proud to be part of the new Art Book Music Inspires Ikebana with our creation “O Fortuna”. Today we want to show the other submitted works for the Music “Ab Ovo” and for the Cello Suite Nr. 1.
On of our Pictures for the renowned Stichting Kunstbook, which we made half a year ago, is now part of that wondeful book. The topic was to install an Ikebana to classic music. For our published Ikebana we chose “Carmina Burana O Fortuna”. And here it is!
It´s getting hot here on the coast. Ther for we played around with water. If you are going to make an water-arrangement, you have to stick your hand in that container filled with water to place your material on the right place. That gives you that first cool feeling and the second you get by looking on your finished water-arrangement.
